The NutSoc (Nutrition Society of the Wayamba University of Sri Lanka) had the opportunity to attend a nutrition awareness session held at Nattandiya MOH on 30th March 2022 in collaboration with the Primary Healthcare System Strengthening Project (PSSP) named “Suwa Hamuwa”. More than 400 participants representing Nattandiya area attended the“Suwa Hamuwa”. Six of the NutSoc committee members participated under the supervision and guidance of Professor Anoma Chandrasekara and Dr. Thushanthi Perera of the Department of Applied Nutrition, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka. The community was advised through group discussions and demonstrations providing healthy dietary tips and advice to prevent and reduce the complications of NCDs. The community was further given practical knowledge on how to prepare a bowl of nutritious fried rice at home, highlighting the nutritional value of each ingredient used. Info-graphics prepared by NutSoc were shared during the group discussions for a better understanding of the dietary guidelines as well as physical activity guidelines explained in the programme.
