Since its inception in 1999, the Faculty of Livestock, Fisheries & Nutrition has been a beacon of excellence in the Sri Lankan tertiary education system. The Faculty offers three degree programmes namely BSc(Hons) in Food Science & Nutrition since 2001, BSc(Hons) in Food Production & Technology Management since 2008 and BSc Food Quality Management (external) since 2021. All degree programmes are distinctively formulated to create a unique graduate profile, offered in the English language.

I’m proud to say that all degree programmes of the Faculty are designed in a way to offer advanced knowledge, cutting-edge skills and training, work attitudes, and socio-emotional and metacognitive skills for our graduates to meet the local needs for higher education in the relevant sectors including food science & technology, applied nutrition, aquaculture & fisheries, livestock & avian sciences and food quality management. Also, we equip our graduates with all the necessary skills they’d need to survive and thrive in the subsequent world of work after graduation.

The Faculty has fully pledged strong research backdrop and community & outreach programmes that will contribute to producing capable and prolific graduates for the development of the aforementioned sectors in Sri Lanka. The Faculty has a staff comprised of veteran and young academics who have the best educational and professional qualifications completed in well-reputed universities worldwide. Our staff is comprised of internationally recognized researchers and academicians which is a key to our ever-growing student population and student academic success. The Faculty attempts to amalgamate real-life experiences, everyday scenarios and workplace requirements into the classroom to facilitate authentic and lifelong learning outcomes of the students while providing them with a competitive advantage to continue to exceed in their respective fields.
