Faculty of Livestock, Fisheries & Nutrition (FLFN) of the Wayamba University of Sri Lanka (WUSL) is a center for outstanding academic excellence and achievement for over 18 years with a current intake of students over 200. We as a Faculty provide a variety of facilities to our prospective as well as current students and staff to thrive and succeed in their academic endeavors. The Faculty has 7 lecture halls with a state of the art auditorium that can house over 150 students facilitating a contented and relaxing teaching and learning environment.
Accommodation and Housing
The Faculty provides residential facilities to all the prospective students after the orientation.
Student Counselling and Mentoring Facilities
For the prospective student who need support to adapt to new life at university and academic programme, a counselling programme is available for their assistance. Each student will get a mentor from the academic staff to get support for smooth progression of student through academic programme. Counselling is available for supportive or problem-solving assistance for academic, vocational, emotional, personal or social concerns.
Information & Communication Technology Centre (ICTC)
The ICTC is fully equipped with servers, workstations with multimedia facilities, Wi-Fi facility, Laptop Computers, Multimedia Projectors, UPS systems, Laser Printers, Colour Printers and Scanners. This Centre operates in 3 sections; separate room for the staff members, separate laboratory to conduct practical for students and a separate room with multimedia facilities.
The Library provides access to Library and Information Service to support teaching, learning and research activities of the student and staff community by making books, e-resources and other materials available and by accessing user to be acquainted with skills in locating information deemed necessary in the modern information age.
The University Food Service is operated by Campus Dining Services and offers all major meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) and a wide variety of snacks for the campus community. This is the most affordable dining option, but there are a variety of meal plans to cater to everyone depending on the affordability.
Market Place and Shops
Marketplaces are located at Makandura (just 10-minutes’ walk from the University) and also at Pannala (10-minutes bus ride). Several food stalls are located in nearby area of the premises. Pannala town has a Food City, super market and many other shops. Makandura town has several small shops from which students can buy stationary and food items.
Sports & Recreation
The university has a fully equipped gymnasium with all sorts of modern fitness equipment (at main campus) to enhance your talents in sports, eliminate your stress of work, keep fitness and break monotony of long hours of studies. You get ample outdoor play ground facilitates for dozens of sports including cricket, football, netball, badminton, etc.
The Student Health Centre situated in the Makandura premises strives to remove health related barriers to learning, to promote optimal wellness, to enable students to make informed decisions about health issues, and to empower students to be self-directed and well informed health care consumers. University Medical Officer is available on every Tuesdays & Thursdays at the Health Centre. When the Medical Officer is not available or in an emergency, students can get health facilities from Sandalanka District Hospital located at the Makandura town (10 minutes’ walk) or Dankotuwa (20 minutes’ bus ride). The nearest major hospital is at Negombo (25 km from the University). Several Medical channeling centers and private hospitals operated 24 are located in Pannala and Negombo.
There are many baking facilities are available closer to the campus premises including; People’s Bank at Makandura and Pannala, Bank of Ceylon at Makandura and Pannala, Commercial Bank at Pannala, Sampath Bank at Pannala, National Saving Bank at Pannala ATM BOC: at the Lions Gate- (new entrance) of the Makandura premises and ATM People’s Bank at Makandura.
Makandura post office accepts weighs packages, receives incoming mail and fax services for residential students through the University Common Support Unit.

|Nutrition and Wellness Centre||
The Nutrition and Wellness Center provides client based nutrition and dietary advice to achieve a balanced diet while making sure the body maintained with adequate exercise to stay fit & healthy. The center will work with clients to establish goals and find the treatment plans that work for them. The center provides following services and facilities;

Food Processing and Preservation Laboratory
Food processing and preservation laboratory is designed with the facilities of new product development, process evaluation, research, teaching and demonstration.
This laboratory is equipped with specialized instruments and food processing equipment with the possibilities that enable experimental processing, laboratory analysis, and product storage evaluation. Experimental food processing including freezing, thermal processing, chilling, drying and smoking and centrifugal separation.
This facility enable the production of processed meat products, dairy products including ice cream and fermented milk products, Cereal and bakery products, carbonated beverages and dehydrated fruits and vegetables.
Refrigeration and freezing systems are available in the Laboratory for temporal storage, shelf life, quality and preservation studies of food products.

Food microbiology laboratory
The food microbiology laboratory is equipped with facilities dealing with microbiological analysis of the food, enumeration and detection of pathogens in food samples. This laboratory facilitate students to study the principles of microbiology, disinfection, sterilization, and identification of wide variety of microorganisms.

This laboratory is equipped with facilities to conduct chemical analysis of the food products. Tests which can conducted in this laboratory are gravimetric, titrimetric and spectrophotometric. Through this laboratory we can carried out tests for determinations of moisture, lipids, proteins, and ash content in food. Other tests include testing concentration, specific gravity, viscosity, conductivity, density, pH and other aspects of foods.

This provides a workplaces for the conduct of scientific research for research students. This laboratory is equipped with freeze drying facility which is important in sample preparation and preservation and storage of biologicals and food samples. Further, the nondestructive nature of this process has been demonstrated by the retention of viability in freeze dried microorganisms.
Gas chromatography is used widely in applications involving food analysis. Typical applications pertain to the quantitative and/or qualitative analysis of food composition, natural products, food additives, flavor and aroma components, a variety of transformation products, and contaminants.
