By the invitation of the Director of the Kuliyapitiya Teaching Hospital, the Department of Applied Nutrition has conducted a “Nutrition Assessment and Counseling Program” for the staff of the Hospital. A team led my Mrs. Thakshila Adikari, a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Applied Nutrition along with two demonstrators and 10 third year students conducted the program on the 21st of November 2019 at the Kuliyapitiya Teaching Hospital with the help of Mrs. Mala Abegunawardena, Nutritionist at Sri Jayawardanepura General Hospital, Mrs. Amal Firouse, Senior Dietitian/ Nutritionist at Asiri Surgical Hospital and Mrs. Dilki Perera, Senior Dietician/Nutritionist at Nawaloka Medicare (Pvt) Ltd. The objective of the program was to promote healthy dietary patterns among adults with a view of maintaining their proper nutritional status by delivering relevant dietary information by a senior nutritionist attached to the Sri J’Pura Hospital on healthy dietary habits, healthy foods and how to prepare/ obtain balanced diets. Nutritionally balanced menus for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner were demonstrated and individual nutrition assessment and counseling were carried out by the registered Dieticians and Nutritionists present at the program. Around 150 participants were attended the program and a series of future programs will precede over the success of this program to continue the “Nutrition Assessment and Counseling Program”.
